July
Nomination: The Tempe Chamber of Commerce's
Centenni-Ale
The air conditioners are humming. The kiddie pools
are filled. Your skin makes a scary ripping sound
every time you peel your legs off the car seat. Summer
is here in all of its hot and sweaty glory, and what
better way to cool down than with an ice cold beer?
How about with an ice cold beer that you invented?
Well, grab your photo I.D., because that is exactly
how the Tempe Chamber of Commerce is keeping its
cool.
The Tempe Chamber was thirsty for something unique
and fun to commemorate their 100 years of service
in the Tempe, Arizona, area. Behold Centenni-Ale,
a classic English-style Draught Ale brewed especially
for the organization in celebration of their 100-year
history.
Unveiled at their Annual Luncheon
in June, the beer was inspired by tastes common
at the group’s
inception as well as the inclinations of Lord Darrel
Duppa, the man responsible for naming Tempe. “Being
a British-born gentleman he had a natural taste for
this particular style of beer,” says Sean Donovan,
the Chamber’s Communications Director.
The Tempe Chamber, which fosters
local economic growth, worked hand-in-hand with
local brewery—and
Chamber member—Four Peaks Brewing Company to
create a unique flavor that spoke to Tempe’s
history. “A toast with a beer that we invented
and had brewed just for us seemed like a great way
to kick off the celebrations,” said Donovan.
And few party favors are as tasteful (and tasty)
as Centenni-Ale. Unfortunately, the Tempe-centric
brew won’t be available in stores, so there
will be no private centennial celebrations taking
place in your living room. That’s all the more
reason, though, for beer lovers to visit Four Peaks
or any of the Tempe Chamber events throughout the
year where they can taste the ale for themselves.
The Oddy nomination
for July is hereby bestowed upon the Tempe Chamber
of Commerce for their outstanding contribution to
quenching over-21 thirsts in the Tempe area and for
creating a deliciously inventive piece of marketing.
